Serial Numbered Parts can be duplicated in multiple Inventory Sites

Hello,

We have recently noticed that we are able to receive the same Inventory ID / Serial number in multiple Sites with no validation error.

However if the same site is used then Dynamics will return the message "The Serial number entered already exists for this item."

Does anyone know why Dynamics would only be validating serialized inventory items by site and not by inventory as a whole?

    We have discovered that if you enter multiple lines with the same serial number before you save, you don't get the error msg. However, if you enter a line, save and try to enter another line, then you DO get the error msg.

    Thanks for the Bug Reference, its odd that the fix would only have been done by site and not company. Also using the Dynamics Demo database "SLDemApp60" I can receive the same part/serial number multiple times into the same site using a different bin.

    I will put in a ticket with Microsoft and see if there is something else causing the problem.

    In looking through bugs,  I find that we made a change based upon bug 23540 which was reporting :System Message 6242 'The serial number entered already exists for this item.' is received in the Receipts (10.010.00) screen when processing a receipt of an Invt ID/ser nbr combination that was issued out of a different company in the same database.

    Our change in 2011 sp1 says this:

    Description of fix:

    Changed to a different sql proc that limits the check for previously existing Serial numbers to only check and see if it already exists in the site of interest.

    So that follows what you are seeing.

    I have seen this as well; would suggest you open an incident with MS so they can determine if it is a bug or "functioning as designed".
