Cross dock with Warehouse Management Only

Hi all,

I’m running into an issue with Cross-docking in WMS‑only mode and I’m hoping someone here has experience with this setup.

Scenario:

  • I have an Inbound Shipment Order and an Outbound Shipment Order.
  • On the Outbound SO, I’ve added a reference to the inbound line via the Cross-dock request tab.
  • When releasing the Outbound Shipment Order, the system correctly creates a line with Planned cross-dock.

So far, everything works as expected.

Issue:When I receive the Inbound Shipment Order, no work is created based on the Location Directive for Work Order Type = Crossdock.

Instead, the system still uses the Location Directive for Inbound Shipment Order, even though planned cross-dock exists and the cross-dock request is correctly linked.

Question:Has anyone successfully used cross-docking with WMS-only mode and can help me understand why the system isn’t triggering the cross-dock work?

Is there maybe a WMS-only limitation or a specific configuration I am missing?

Any insights or examples are very welcome!

Thanks in advance.

    Hi MB-04070811-0,

    A few questions:
    1. Is this planned cross docking being used in WMS Only mode?
    2. The cross docking template was not applied because of the demand requirement (e.g. Marking) wasn't satisfied? is this case?
    3. Release to warehouse didn't convert the cross dock request into a marking relationship, is this the case?
    4. Is the demand planning requirement field set to Marking?
    5. Are the parameters set as Demand release policy = Before supply receipt or After supply receipt; Demand requirements = Marking (if you want strict linking); Supply Source = Inbound Shipment order?

    Suggestions:
Tricky scenario. In WMS Only Mode that uses Inbound and outbound shipment orders as you rightly mentioned is linked through a cross dock request. Assuming this cross dock request is converted to a marking before evaluating the cross dock template.

    1. For WMS only mode, use the source system setup to define the release to warehouse process to convert cross docking requests (Outbound shipment order line cross docking) to markings before it evaluates planned cross docking templates where demand planning is set to Marking. Specify the requested cross docking quantities as part of the OutboundShipmentOrderLineCrossDockMessages <=> InboundShipmentOrderLineMessages by setting CrossDocSourceID to the same value.
    2. For work orders and location directive is the work template for work order type = Cross docking with Pick/Put steps. Location directive for cross docking work order type.
    3. Inbound and outbound cross docking should share the same CrossDocSourceId or via the UI, if you have to manually link them.

Hope this helps. Happy to answer questions, if any.

    Good morning,

Here the answers to your questions:

    1. Yes, I try to use cross dock in WMS Only mode.
    2. This could be the case. But the problem is that I get an error message when I set demand requirement to marking or reservation. This error occurs when you want to release the outbound shipment order to the warehouse. That the reason why put this setting to value none. See attachment with settings for template.
    3. Yes, I don't the see marking. See screenshot with outbound shipment order
    4. No, when I set this to marking a get an error when I try to release the outbound order to the warehouse. I can only release when this setting is set to none.
    5. See CD template

In the mean time found the solution.

If you want to make use of cross docking in WOM, you need to run this batch to release the order to the warehouse.
With this batch the system creates a marking to a inbound shipment order and create the planned crossdock.
Then in the receiving process the system will use the cross dock template to receive the order and created cross dock work.
