Client environment deleting for seeming no reason

I have a client whose production environment keeps deleting overnight due to "inactivity." The environment is not inactive, we have been using it for testing. It has deleted without any notice at 3AM, 2 nights in a row. The first night it was just the production environment but on the second night, it was both the production and the sandbox environment. Has this happened to anyone before?

Even though you're actively using the environment for testing, Microsoft's system has flagged it as "inactive", which triggered the automatic soft deletion. This is not normal behavior for a production environment, especially without prior notice.
    Recommended Actions
    1. Raise a Microsoft Support Ticket Immediately

    2. Restore the Environment
Since it's a soft delete, you can restore it:
    • Go to Admin Center > Environments
    • Click on "Deleted environments"
    • Select the environment and choose "Restore"
    3. Check Environment Settings
    • Go to Admin Center > Environment Details
    • Verify:
      • Environment type is correctly set (Production vs Sandbox)
      • Auto-cleanup settings (if any) are disabled
      • Usage logs show recent activity
    4. Audit User Activity
    • Check if any automated process or user triggered the deletion.
    • Use Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) logs to trace actions.
    5. Prevent Future Deletion
    • Ensure the environment is marked as active.
    • Consider adding dummy activity (e.g., scheduled job) if it's idle for long periods.
    • Document usage clearly if it's a test/staging environment.
Note: This response was created in collaboration with Microsoft Copilot to ensure clarity and completeness. I hope it helps to some extent.

This shouldn’t happen to active environments — even sandboxes aren't deleted automatically without warning. It’s likely tied to a trial tenant expiration or capacity policy. Please check your admin center for subscription status and reach out to your Microsoft partner or support immediately to avoid further data loss.

    Is it exceeding the quantity?

Hope this can give you some hints.
    Thanks.

    Hi, good day
I recommend you create a ticket. I don't think this behavior is normal. Or at least, I don't know why.
