Setting up Shelf ID's/Giving my products a specific locations within the warehouse

Hello readers,

I was wondering what the fastest way is to assign my products to a specific location ID. In our warehouse we wish to every product a specific location ID, but now I am wondering how can I do this as fast as possible.

I wish to assign 3 or 4 products per shelf (180 shelfs in total), so my pickers can just lookup the shelf/location ID, and know where to walk to.

Do I manually have to assign each product to a shelf, or can I do it faster?

Thanks in advantage!

    Sjoerd,

What we did was assign the Actual Location to the "Bin" field on the Item Quantities Maintenance Window for Each Warehouse, but not in the "Bin" Window, as we don't want to go down to that level. We used Abbreviations for the longer names.

Depending on your SQL skills then you can do faster with an Update.

    Regards,

    Mick

You can use a Macro driven from a spreadsheet to populate the Bin location for each item, if its only 180 this seems reasonable.

Alternatively as Mick says, if you are proficient with SQL, a direct update on the table would work (Table IV00102 [BIN])

There are lots of videos and guides for macro mail merge technique, if you internet search for "mail merge macro dynamics gp excel "

I've also seen a guide that does it this way I believe:

Go to Inventory >> Items >> Select the products that need to have 1 specific location >> Item Transaction >> Transfer Transaction >> Item Bin Transfer.

Could I also do it this way, or is the Item Bin Transfer used for something else?

Bin Transfer is where you wish to move stock from one bin to another, this is applicable where the GP company has multiple bins switched on.

I was assuming you are not using multiple bins.
