UOM from EACH to PACK with BUOM in PACK

We have the following scenario. A supplier sells an item in each but sends them in packages (12 each), so we need to order 12 each to receive 1 package. We sell by package (12 each).

This creates a problem because my PO has to be in units of each because that is how the vendor sell,  but the base unit of measure and sales order has to be in packages to show my correct inventory.

So we have the following on Related/Item/Units of Measure:

Units of Measurement
       Each      12
       Pack      1

Base Unit of Measure        Pack                         Quantity Rounding Precision       1

*** As a common rule, the Base Unit of Measure should always be the smallest unit, otherwise, you start getting into fractional inventory.
*** Business Central can divide from package to each, but not multiply, that is, from each to packages.

What alternatives do you think are suitable for this scenario? We were considering /Assembly/ to fix this, i.e. receiving in units and creating a new bundled item.

Thank you so much in advance for your assistance.

Based on your explanation, it sounds like "Each" should be your Base Unit of Measure.  Unfortunately, if you have already transacted with this Item, you will not be able to change the Base Unit of Measure.

    You have two options:
    1) (best method) You can renumber this Item and block it, setup the Item again with the correct Base Unit of Measure, and adjust your inventory to the new Item.
    2) Seat UOM "Each" to 1/12 Pack (Base) and it will calculate the conversion.  This means when you have inventory outside a Pack quantity you will have fractional (i.e. 1.25) Packs in inventory.  Worse yet, you may not have any whole Packs, but rather a bunch of partial Packs that total greater than 1 Pack.

You clearly know the suggested rules on setting up Item Units of Measure conversions, now it's just a matter of whether you follow those rules.

I assume You are using this item piece by piece, so the Base Unit of Measure should be 1 PCS.
In Item Card add another Unit of measure - PACK , and set it to Quantity 12.  This means in 1 Pack = 1 Pieces. Also You can adjust the Purchase Unit of Measure = PACK in the item card.

Now in Purchase orders You can enter that You are buying 4 Packs, and when You receive the items, in Your inventory it will be 48 Pieces.

If buying and selling are counted as 1 pack, I think the basic unit can be changed to Pack. Or create another Item No. separately, which is entered into and out of the system in Package unit every time.
Unless you may also have a single transaction, or the inventory is based on each, then it may be better to use Assembly Order. But this will increase user operations.

Hopefully other experts can give you better advice.

    Thanks.
