Checkbook numbers not advancing

(0) ShareShare

Our checkbook is showing 154970, but should be showing 155048. I verified that check numbers 154971 through 155047 posted to PM30200. We had another incident of this last week. Both times a fairly large batch of a few hundred checks were fun, but the counter for the check number on the checkbook record only advanced by one check. Some smaller batches ran ok. We have been using GP for years without incident.

Any ideas on the cause?

By any chance, do you have missing check numbers between 154970 and 155047?

Great! Go to the checkbook setup window (Financial > Cards > Checkbook) and set the next check number to 155048. Save the checkbook. What I would suggest then is *prior* to the next check run, capture a Dexsql.log and a script trace, and assuming this happens again, at least we will have something to go by.

To enable a Dexsql.log, follow the instructions in the following Microsoft Support article:

    support.microsoft.com/.../how-to-create-a-dexsql-log-file-to-troubleshoot-error-messages-in-micr

To enable a Script log, follow the instructions in the following Microsoft Support article:

    support.microsoft.com/.../how-to-gather-a-dexterity-scriptlog-in-microsoft-dynamics-gp

These two will be key to any further troubleshooting effort. All you need to do is, couple minutes before the check run, enable these on the workstation that will be performing the task. You can enable the script log, just before the print button is clicked.
