Receipt Printer randomly hesitates

I'm on RMS V1.3 using Epson TM88-IV's connected serially to 3 POS stations.  We have been using RMS since late 2006.  A month or so ago, the receipt printers starting hesitating for up to 20 seconds prior to starting to print and in the middle of printing.  They do this on all types of transactions - no sale, cash sales, credit card sales and x reports.

My vendor has never experienced this before and suggested to reboot the computer, reindex the db.   I did this but the problem persisted.  He also suggested reloading the OPOS driver.  Nothing has changed w/ my operating system, we're running XP Home SP2 so I'm not sure this will do any good.  I'm nervous about starting to mess with the drivers.

Besides this, the system has been rock solid.  Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

 Jac

You should upgrade your XP machines to SP3.  Also, verify that someone has not added a printer to a computer ie. control panel / printers that does not really exist.  At tender print receipt, RMS will poll any listed printers in control panel / printers and if that printer is not physically connected via. direct to PC or across the network, it will delay the print job to the receipt printer significantly.

thanks, will look at that tomorrow.  I did notice there were some printers showing that were not needed.  XP seems to pick up network printers even when you don't install them

You can turn off the auto discovery feature for the network printers by going to the control panel (classic view) -> folder options -> View (tab) and unchecking "Automatically search for network fodlers and printers."
