BOM printouts are not completely printing

Dynamics GP2010 -

When we post our BOMs and print them out, sporadically we will get a BOM that does not print out all of the required pages or it will print a blank sheet.

I have told the person who prints the BOM's to please select "PRINT TO SCREEN" before printing and wasting paper.

She then knows immediately if it will print a BLANK first page (or any page) but, while it lists the number of pages, when she prints, a different person pulls them from the printer and they have no clue how many pages so naturally assumes that it printed complete.

Has anyone else come across this issue?  We cannot duplicate the problem, but it happens often enough where it is a problem.  We have checked the printers but since it will print erroneously to the screen, how will anyone know until it prints out and obviously didn't provide all the sheets?

I will get with the others to see if this will be acceptable to all involved.

Again thank you for researching this for me.

    Pam,

No Problem and I see the problem could effectively from the print spooler... Can I suggest you something : why don't you install yourself a PDF-Creator print queue (this is a free product) on your PC and then generate the BOM report as a PDF file that you could send over by e-mail to the destinator of the report ? That way you would save trees and bandwith at the same time... A PDF file is much smaller then the spool jobs that goes across the networks to the printers, and the person has the choice to print only when they really need it, otherwise a screen display is as good (and search works too).

I don't think the SP3 would change anything and maybe GP2013 will, but I'd not wait until then to get this fixed...

Beat - Thank you for this info -

The gal who does these BOM printouts is in the same building as I am.  When she prints a BOM to her printer, there is never a problem; however, the person who needs the BOM is in another building (next door).

Therefore, rather than printing the BOM and carrying it over to them, we simply select their printer and print to them.  This is where the problem evidently stems from.  Somewhere through the printer pipeline, info goes missing.

We are using GP 2010 SP1 and haven't upgraded to SP2 or SP3 - perhaps that will clear things up eventually.  I know we didn't always have this particular problem until we upgraded to GP 2010.

I'm hoping we can upgrade to 2013 in the near future and perhaps that will get rid of the problem as well.

    Thanks again for your thoughts.

    Hi Pam,

This may sound very spooky, but I had once a case with the POP blank report (customized) that was not printing the lower part of the report when directed to Adobe PDF... and that was what Purchasing wanted. One user had upgraded to the latest version of Adobe Acrobat writer and there the problems started... When printing on screen, everything was looking fine, even direct printing on paper. But when printed to the Adobe print queue, the report was only halfway printed... The old version was just doing fine. Could never figure out the cause of this, but we installed a 3rd party PDF creation print queue and this was doing perfectly. The user then opened the PDF file within Acrobat writer.

I could imagine that the Dynamics GP printing process may be very picky regarding the printer drivers and things like this could also happen to a 'physical' printer, not only Adbobe PDF format. Have you tried a different printer queue ? From where is your GP client executed ? locally or remote thru TS or Citrix ?

Re: BOM printouts are not completely printing

We have not resolved the issue - the person who prints these out continues to print to screen to make sure all sheets will be printed to the other building.

She has stated that even though all the sheets show up on screen, not all the sheets will be printed out.

    Hi Pam,

Where you able to resolve your BOM report issue ?  was it finally a modified report or still he standard report ? are we talking about the BOM rpt from Inventory or Manufacturing ? The Text or the Graphical version ?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

This sounds like it is probably a modified report.   I would speak to your partner or someone with Report Writer knowledge to look into it.   I would guess there is a restriction or sorting on one of the sections that is suppressing information.
