Manufacturing Fixed Assets

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hello there,

I'm in such predicament... We have a client that manufacture their own fixed assets...

They buy the parts and make the assembly of the machines by their own, after the machne is complete it is now part the company's fixed assets.

There is an advance feature of Dynamics GP that can accomplish this? Or there have to be a custom feature?

Hope you can help me.

Thanks

Just to add to the suggestions, I had a client that had inventory they rented to customers.   We used the Wennsoft Equipment Manger module to help track the equipment (would probably also work with the equipment window with Contract Administration).   We also created 2 IV items for each FA, one with a cost if it was sold outright, and the 2nd with 0 cost for the fixed asset.   It had 0 cost so we could show it shipped to a customer.   We would have to do 2 entries so we could show the location where it existed.

One of my client had a same requirement, they build there own bulidings and transfer them into fixed assets in later date, Project Accounting helped me a lot to. Where I need to Bill the project to some dummy accounts and manually creating an Asset in Fixed Assets, dummy account was credited rather than fixed asset clearing account. If there is any amount remains in Dummy account that means all WIP is not transferred into Fixed Asset

Javier, there is no such link between Manufacturing and Fixed Assets.  The easiest way to accomplish this would be with an Inventory Adjustment transaction to credit Finished Goods inventory and debit the Fixed Asset account after the MO has been completed, then manually enter the asset in the Fixed Asset card.  Automation of this process would require a customization.

    Hope this helps,
