Hi all

we have a new company and we just bought a new environment to install Italy Production.
I can't find much info about Italy requirement and Electronic invoicing. does anyone have any information how to connect our BC to Italian electronic invoicing?
Do we need a 3rd party addon?

we have spoken to our BC partner already and they are not familiar with Italy implementation

Many thanks

Yes, you typically need a 3rd-party certified add-on to connect BC with SDI unless you build your own integration.

For Italy you’ll need to enable the Italian local functionality in Business Central – this covers VAT, Withholding Tax, and especially electronic invoicing (FatturaPA) which is mandatory.

    Key points:

    1. E-invoicing is mandatory – All sales invoices must be sent via SDI (Sistema di Interscambio).
    2. Standard BC doesn’t send invoices directly to SDI – you normally need a certified intermediary/connector. Many Italian partners (e.g., Wolters Kluwer, Arxivar, Zucchetti, etc.) provide add-ons that integrate BC with SDI.
    3. Italian localization – check the Microsoft Docs for Italian features: Business Central Local Functionality for Italy.
    • Setup required

    • Electronic Document Setup (XML format for FatturaPA).

    • VAT setup with Italian specifics (split payment, stamp duty, withholding tax).

    • Mapping of customers’ Codice Destinatario or PEC for e-invoices.

    Hi Nihad,

Italy’s electronic invoicing requirements are strict and highly regulated, and it’s not uncommon for partners outside the region to be unfamiliar with the nuances. The good news is that BC does support Italian e-invoicing (FatturaPA), but it requires proper setup and sometimes a third-party integration.

Here’s what you need to know:

    • Italy mandates the use of the Sistema di Interscambio (SDI) platform for all electronic invoices. These must be formatted in FatturaPA XML, which is the official schema accepted by the Italian Revenue Agency.
    • BC’s Italian localization includes built-in support for FatturaPA. You’ll need to configure the Fattura Setup, define the Document Type List, and ensure your VAT and payment method codes align with the Italian Tax Authority’s standards.
    • For full automation, sending, receiving, archiving, and legal compliance, you’ll likely need a third-party connector. One widely used solution is the EOS Electronic Invoice for Italy, which integrates with BC and connects directly to SDI via the IX-FE web service from Abletech.
    • This app allows you to:
      • Create and send invoices directly from BC
      • Receive and reconcile purchase invoices
      • Apply legal tags like duty stamp, VAT exemptions, and “Altri Dati Gestionali”
      • Monitor delivery status and archive invoices for legal compliance

If you’re not seeing the FatturaPA options in your environment, confirm that the Italy localization is enabled and that your environment is provisioned with the correct country-specific features.
