Field Security Profile

Hi,

I am having some issues with setting up a secured field on dynamics 2011. This is on the account entity. I have changed a custom field that we created for time zone to be a secured field. I then added all three rights to this field in the field security profile. Users with this profile can see the data in the field, but not change it. The security role is set to Read, Append, and Append to.

Any ideas on why it will not let the users edit this field?

Thanks!

Danny

firstly the values in field permissions in field security profile are

    Read

    Update

    Create

You can also have multiple field security profiles.

You should check what field security profile the users have and what field permissions are set for the fields in question

it sounds like they only have read permissions

to find the field security profiles go to

Settings --> Administration --> Field Security Profiles

then when you click on one of these you can see the members and if you click on field permissions you can see what permissions you have for each field with field level security ticked.

This blog post I wrote shows you how it all works

    Hello,

Are you sure your user have the right to edit account ? In their security role privilege ?

You must give the security role the update privilege too. The security profile will refine the access further.

    Explained here: msdn.microsoft.com/.../gg309608.aspx

    Hope this helps!

Just to clarify, I have all three rights on the secured field enabled.

If I do not have Write rights on the Security Role, it will not allow me to open just that field up to editing?

    Thanks!

    Hi Danny,

If you dont have Write right on the security role of your entity, you can open the form, but, you cannot save, you will not have ribbon: Save and Save & Close, did you see those ribbons/commands?

    Hi Aileen,

I do not have the write right on the account entity. Without that, I cannot have a field that is editable using field security, correct?

Yes. Security Role is one of the baselines (the other is the business unit concept) of the whole security concept. As long as you do not have update privileges on the record, you will not have the possibility to update any field on that record. Security profiles are the next step in the security concept. With Field Security Profile you can lock down the privileges you gave in the Security Role.

    Hi Danny,

Even though you can edit the value in the form, but you cannot save it :)

Yes, Peter was correct, first, CRM will do a checking in entity level privilege, then go detail for each field that set to field level security profile.
