Business Central Database Backups

Hello,

I'm looking for information regarding backup and retention of Business Central data/databases.  I have found these links, but we are looking for something above and beyond 30 days worth of backups, and manual backups/exports are out of the question as we will be supporting dozens of clients.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/business-central/dev-itpro/faq

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/business-central/dev-itpro/administration/tenant-admin-center-database-export

At a high level, here's what we're looking for:

  • Every 4 hours every day a backup is created (1am, 5am, 9am, 1pm, 5pm, 9pm ET - times and frequency subject to change)
  • When a backup is a week old, it is removed unless it is the 9pm ET backup of the day.
  • When a backup is a month old, it is removed unless it is the 9pm ET backup Sat of each week.
  • When a backup is 6 months old, it is removed unless it is the 9pm ET backup of the last Sat of each month.
  • When a backup is 2 years old, it is removed unless it is the last 9pm ET backup of the year.

On a side note, but outside the scope of the BC forum, data is sent to BC in real time from a D365 environment that will require the same backup schedule so that data is in sync in the event a restore is required. I know there are vendors out there that provide backup solutions for D365, but I have been unable to find anything similar for BC.

Thoughts?

    Hi,

For SaaS version of Business Central you need to use the same way that is specified in the second link you provided in description or you can request Microsoft.

If you are using On-Prem then you can either write your own job using SQL Server or there are many third party software available

Here is one way to make it easier if you'd like to vote for the feature:

In Saas You are pretty much covered (coming soon):

Thanks Erol, that will get us part of the way there, but due to compliance requirements, we will also need extended backups as described above.  I find it hard to believe that there are not a lot of other companies out there with similar needs.
