Pick Items for Service Orders using Advanced Warehousing

Posted on by 10

This seems like such an obvious question that I hope I'm not wasting anyone's time in asking it but we've searched and searched and can't find the answer and it is now delaying our deployment.

We use advanced warehousing in our business and because of the controls we require around our materials we have only a few people permitted to enter the warehouse.  We have the production module fully implemented and working well.

We are now looking to implement the Service Management module to manage the repair side of our business and have all our processes mapped except...

How do you trigger a pick to the warehouse for material required for a service order? We can add an item to the service order, we can reserve it and we can add the item tracking details but we can find no way to trigger the warehouse to actually go and get the physical item(s) and bring them to the technician doing the repair work.

Thank you in advance for you help.

Thank you Steve, that is very helpful and we will structure our processes accordingly.

Again thank you for your time.

    David,

Sadly no. You must Release to get the process moving forward. Your thought is correct in that Ready to Ship should be the flag that the Item is ready to ship back the customer. Service has Repair Status and Status field to use for over repair status. Look at the General Fast Tab and Lines.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks,

    Steve

    Thank you Steve,

Much appreciated and I've followed your advice and shown it works.  It didn't initially, but once I changed the Release Status to "Release to Ship" I could then "Create Warehouse Shipment" and pick the part as you described.

As a follow up question, is there a way of creating the Warehouse Shipment that doesn't have you change the release status first? Maybe our planning is wrong but we were thinking this was used to flag to the warehouse that the unit was repaired and ready to be shipped back to the customer.

    David,

If the Location (Warehouse) is using Advanced Warehousing in BC (Require Pick/Require Shipment), after creating the Service Order this becomes outbound source document. This can be seen by the Warehouse Pick. I created a Service Order with 1 Item. I then created my Warehouse Shipment, which is needed to create the Pick. I go to Pick Worksheet and pull in my Warehouse Shipment for Service Order and then Create Pick and the document.

    Thanks,

    Steve
