Stock Keeping Unit

Dear Experts,

I would like to know the difference between quantity in inventory and quantity in stock keeping unit.

Should they always be same quantity?

Do MRP detect the quantity in inventory or stock keeping unit?

Where do we see the inventory when we check our inventory balance?

Hope to get your advice.

Thank You.

Regards,

Pyone

    RE: Stock Keeping Unit

The stock keeping unit is used to store information about an item that is specific to a location or an item variant. The stock keeping unit itself does not hold an inventory qty. The inventory qty is still found on Item, Variant, Location, Bin level even when you use Stock Keeping units.

So using stock keeping units does not change the way Business Central show the inventory you have for each item.  You can still use the standard ways of checking inventory even after setting up stock keeping units.

I have typically used stock keeping units if cost, replenishment parameters, shelf information and such is different between my location.
