Access Common Data Model

Hello All,

we are currently evaluating new possibilities to design our solution with dynamics 365. We would like to use Common Data Model along with Dynamics 365 and a Power App.

Unfortunately there are not much information about CDM out there. Maybe there is somebody who can explain some concepts and best practices related to CDM.

  1. Can I have all my Data (Default Entities and Custom Entities) in CDM, altough lets say our Workflows an Plugins in CRM must have access to the Data in CDM to read and to manipulate them? Can I or do I have to synchronize the CDM with CRM Database? It should not be like that because this means i will have duplicate data..
  2. Is it possible to access Common Data Model from a Custom Application (C#)?
  3. We are planning to use ClickDimensions and are discussing how should that work with CDM.
  4. Further we want to show the Entity Data to an external Portal for our Customers and we are planning to do it with ADXStudio. And here the same question is this even possible.

As you can see there are gaps in understanding the concept of CDM.

Thanks in advance.

regards,

Haseeb

Hi, CDS is a very new service right now and should be used to interchange data between apps rather than for replicating data. You cannot access it through an SDK at this time, nor can you replicate your entity data in to the CDM.

I participated in an online discussion about it recently which should help you - channel9.msdn.com/.../Microsoft-Medics-365

    Hope this helps

    1. It's a common datasource, I'll recommend to use it just in terms of share data between CRM and AX or another app that is inside of your Office365 account.

    2. Yes, you can create an app to consume that information through either PowerBI, PowerApps, MicrosoftFlows or a service if you want to.

    3. Unfortunately, don't have experience working with..

    4. Of course you can access to the data from an ADXStudio portal. In my opinion, I'd prefer a custom MVC which is always more flexible.

    Hope this helps you,

    Regards!

    Hi Scott:

If we want to do a two way sync between Dynamic 365,Business (CRM) online and our external Microsoft SQL Database(or other in house web application).

Would CDM a good way to implement it?

Is there any template that can use to implement it?

    Thanks!
