Dimension SET (table 480) - how to avoid it

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by 15

I have a problem using the general Journal ledger.

once - a wile back I posted a line with two dimensions, "Department" and "Car".

Now I am unable to post a line with only one dimension, "Department" since it "falls back" to the dimension set where my department was used the first time and adds the "Car" dimension to the line by it selves.

I cannot delete this second dimension prior to posting.

Any ideas

So - if it is only in our version, it must be setup somewhere.

What I discoverred right now is that if I remove the "account/Dimension" setting Default Dimension, it acts correct.

I can post with only department and no Car.

But If I try to make Department mandatory I cannot post without adding Car as well.

    Can you do that now?

A: make Department mandatory on the account

B: Create new posting line and select Department

I would like you to try and post a line withdimension  "department" :admin - now.

In my version selecting department as dimension, Car will follow with value TEST

    Thank for your answers...

Once I get a little more time, I will make screenshots...

    Hi Karsten_JR

I followed your step (see below) and when I tried the second time my dimension were blank and I post it with blank dimension without any issue.

Did I miss any step here? Maybe if you post your G/L setup then some screenshot we can reproduce the error.

    Thanks

Yes Mahgah we Are on the same page. Try this

Add a New dimension to Departnent i e. Admin.

Then create a secobd dimension "car" or something and add a dimension, i e. Test

Now make one post with both dimensions and you will find that after the first post  with both dimensions you cannot make a second post with only department

RE: Dimension SET (table 480) - how to avoid it

Hi, Dimensions in BC are only associated with master data, and there is no such association between them.

If you need these relationships, this needs to be customized.

    department 1 -> car ab123

    department 2 -> car BC234

PS: There is a Dimension Combinations feature in BC, but it is not the same as your needs.

    More details: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/business-central/finance-dimensions#to-set-up-dimension-combinations

RE: Dimension SET (table 480) - how to avoid it

    Hi

    Quick question

Based on your use G/L in General Journal and for that G/L when you go to G/L then Account -> Dimensions then  you see Department under Dimension Code  and then something (in my example ADM) under Dimension Value. Then you see Code Mandatory?

Then when you go to General Journal and select this account then under  Line -> Dimension you see Department but in addition you see Car? In my example below I only see Department. But wanted to check to make sure we are on the same page.

RE: Dimension SET (table 480) - how to avoid it

Well - we are quite new users of BC. And when typing a Journal line, no dimensions turns up automatically.

When choosing the one dimension I want "Department", the other "car" comes along automatically, with the first value that the selected "Department" has in the dimension set table.

    Examples.

If I choose department 1 the car would be ab123 - every time

If I choose department 2 the car would be BC234

Looking in table 480 the first time department 1 has been used  the car is filled out with ab123

the first time department 2 has been used the car is filled out with BC234

and so on - I tried other departments and the picture is the same.

The account has a setting that Dimension Department has to be filled out - nothing about dimension Car.

Do you know what to look for in the finansiel account, where could a standard dimension set be placed

and if Dimension Car is not mandatory on the account-dimension - why can I not delete it prior to posting

This is not coming from your Dimension Set, this is happening based on master records that have default dimensions. You can never and should never deal with the Dimension set. Dimension Sets are auto assigned based on the data entry, they do not do any data entry on your behalf. Look at customer, vendor, item, bank, gl account default dimensions and you should find the reason that you are getting two dimensions defaulted into your general journal.
