Dear all
Could you explain to me "Dimension" in Business Central? With few example.
Thanks
The documentation states this: docs.microsoft.com/.../finance-dimensions
My on take on it. If you want to analyse your p&l or balance sheet transactions by specifics this is the feature for you. Example being something like geographic location. That is data on the customer or vendor, as in a field exists. However, you need to stitch that together with g/l entries if you want to analyse your sales performance in specific locations by how you break up your revenue streams. Dimensions stream line this by taking data from other areas to make up a meaningful transaction. Layer in the fact you can have many dimensions it means you have a chance to tag to each financial transaction context. So what country, what product stream, what brand, what department, what cost centre etc.
The other use of dimensions is for control. So you can determine if certain postings are allowed with specific data. Or if a certain combo of dimensions is allowed. For example, a certain brand cannot sell a certain product group.
