Scrap % Limit

Posted on by 9
Hi,
I have a client the produces more than 100% of scrap (so the manufacturing process utilizes less than half of the Raw Material). BC seems to calculate requirements by Quantity plus Quantity * Scrap % to give you the full requirement. Therefore, if you want to scrap more than the actual raw material requirement you need to enter a Scrap% greater than 100 which you can't do in BC.

Here's the example the required qty is 1800mm and the smallest length you can purchase is 5000mm. Yes, the remainder is scrapped due to cost of storage and cataloguing etc.
So given BC calculates:    1800 + (1800 x Scrap%) = 5000
I need to enter ~178 as the Scrap% but it won't let me.

Note that entering Quantity 5000 and Scrap% yields a total requirement of 8200 so not the answer I'm looking for.

Thanks,
Regan

    Scrap % Limit
Scrap % indicates the percentage of how many finished products or materials are not acceptable - and therefore you would need to include more materials to fulfill the requirements for production.
In Your case the remaining length of 3200mm is just a side product or waste, not scrap.

seems weird that 5000mm cannot be used for 2 items of 1800  (even if You cut them in half, You would have 2 x 2500) and would still be able to get 2x1800.  Might be a business specific, but still looks weird.
