Power BI report data based on the logged in user in D365 Portal

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi,

We are embedding Power BI reports in D365 Portals. We want to show data in report which is related to the user.

For Example:  After Successfully login into the Portal, User should able to see the report of Support tickets related to his organization.

If user has no Power Bi account how he can see the report and we don't want to use anonymous report?

    Hello,

You should be able to use filter parameters to create personalized reports:

    docs.microsoft.com/.../service-url-filters

This is done by adding query string parameters to the report URL, and since you embed the report by putting in the URL in the Liquid tag, and since you can use Liquid to get the ID of the current user's contact record, it should be possible to craft a report that only shows data related to the current contact record.

    Hope that helps.

    Hi Vaishali,

With how PowerBI works, even if you are using the APIs to pull data directly from CRM they are run in the context of the user doing the refresh of the dashboard.  In order for the data to be shown in the way a SSRS report does fully in the context of the user they would have to be refreshing the data and then uploading every time.

The closest thing you could do is to make it so that you have one base PowerBI report and then create multiple dashboards from it. Then once you have the multiple dashboards one for each organization, and then make it so that by permissions or sharing only people from the correct organization are seeing a specific embedded page or PowerBI Dashboard.
