How do I mass upload barcodes to items?

Posted on by 30
Hello,

I am able to assign a barcode to an item individually by:
Going to Management inventory>>> Bar codes>>> New
Barcode setup: (named it UPC-A)
Barcode: (the barcode number)
Qty: 1
Unit: ea
No mask

Barcode type: No bar code
Font: BC UPC HD Wide
Min length: 12
Max length: 12

I have over 10k items. How do I mass upload barcodes to all items in Dynamics 365 F&O?

I have an excel spreadsheet with all item names and barcodes.  What do I do?

Thanks in advanced for all your help.

God bless you.

In your Excel file, you can have a column for ASSOCIATIONID, but leave it blank.

After you add the Item - barcode associations data entity to your Import project, click to View the field mapping.

On the Map source to staging screen, head to the Mapping details tab. Here, on the ASSOCIATIONID line, tick Auto-generated.

Save the field mapping then run your import. This will cause the Data Entity to use the appropriate number sequence for the ASSOCIATIONID and hopefully resolve your error.

How do I mass upload barcodes to items?
    Hi Ivan,

My advice would be to use the data entity 'Item - barcodes V3'

    Best regards,

Using Data Management because I'm unable to install the Microsoft Dynamics Office Add-in.

Import job validation error in the "View Staging Data' of the "Execution log":
Results. Field 'Item - barcode association' does not allow editing.
Results. Invalid specification of Item - barcode association
Results. Number sequence ACB does not allow change to a lower number.

I guess I need to generate a barcode association ID, but don't know how to mass generate it.

Don't know how to specify further the item other that the item number.

Don't know what "Number sequence ACB" refers to.

    What am I missing?

    Hi Ivan,

You don't need to create a new Data Entity. On the Item - bar code screen, you can click the Open in Microsoft Office button, and then choose Open in Excel > Item - barcode association. Download and open the spreadsheet. You will need to have the Microsoft Dynamics Office Add-in installed.

If you prefer, you can use the Item - barcode association data entity from within the Data Management module to import barcodes in a my formal, controlled way.

    Hi,
When using the Data Management Framework for mass upload, you first need to create a new data entity. In this data entity, you define columns to match the structure of your Excel spreadsheet, including item names and their corresponding barcodes. Next, you use data entity mappings to map these columns to fields in the items entity within F&O. Once the mappings are set up, you can create a data project job, select your data entity and mappings, and then execute the job to bulk update the barcode information for all items in F&O.
    Best regards,
    Kevin
