Is there a way (via coding since MS won't allow ootb customization) to add a picklist (Note Type) to the Notes entity? Dynamics CRM 2011 UR15 (on-premise)

I don't know anyway but also any change would be unsupported and then if anything went wrong you would only get limited support.

I think you should consider doing this by adding a new entity or a the same field on all entities which you can check for this

    RE: Customize Notes Entity

    Hello,

The annotation (note) entity does not allow for this. I recommend creating a custom "note(s)" entity to fulfill the requirement.

Pros to this approach: Allows greater flexibility for customization, security, and reporting.

Cons: It will take time to configure the entity and the relationships to all the entities you would like to have this on. Data conversion may be needed to retain the existing note records, should you decide to replace the OOTB notes entity.
