Adjust Cost - Item Entries endless run

ReportReport

Hi all,

i'm facing an issue with the report in the subject. If i run the report, even for just 1 item, it never ends. After 12 hours, the timeout error occurs. Why does it take so long?

- The costing method for the item is average.
- the replenishment system is Prod. Order.
- the item tracking is by lot number.
- the item has 132 output item ledger entries (related to just 1 production order).
- the item has 431 consumption item ledger entries (related to just 1 production order).

In the production order in which the item is consumed there are like 2000 item ledger entries.

What can i check?

This is the inventory setup:

This is a bit strange. You could ask the developers to debug it and figure out which data is causing the problem.
Alternatively, you could try the new features below.
Business Central 2024 wave 1 (BC24): Inventory Cost Adjustment tool (new Inventory Cost Adjustment page)

    Thanks

    Hello,

According to your settings, the cost adjustment is set to Never. I would recommend running the report by filter, either by product or product category, to validate that everything is running correctly.

I would also review the process with a developer to debug and validate the error or recursion that is occurring.

    I hope this helps.

    Best regards,

    Andrés

    Hi,

I think it is going in a loop. Can you please check that the Output of Prod order in which your items is consumed, is the same item, even though different times is used in Prod. Order to produce your item.
For e.g. A is used to produce B and B is used to produce A. In that case, because of so many ILE it may go into loop.

Second thing to do is start logging for Cost adjustment errors. You can enable it from Inventory setup. Also you can log errors for this Item by following this setup and Item Cost adjustment page as mentioned in this document here - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/business-central/finance-track-inventory-costs

    Let us know the results.

    Hello,

Your issue is very likely caused by Average costing + Average Cost Period = Day + lot tracking + large production order + no automatic cost adjustment, which is one of the heaviest combinations in Business Central; since Automatic Cost Adjustment is set to Never, the system probably has a large backlog of unadjusted item ledger entries, so when the report runs it tries to walk through the entire cost application chain (including 2000+ production-related entries), causing it to run for hours and eventually time out — first run Adjust Cost – Item Entries for that specific item and see if that’s the real bottleneck, check for deep application chains or historical negative inventory, and consider testing in sandbox with Average Cost Period = Month to reduce recalculation load.

    Regards,
    Oussama Sabbouh
