Hi,

I am trying to ad a new line on a sales price list, but when I do I get the error /the line cannot be split/.
What does this mean? Have I done something wrong?

I have the same question (0)

Try adding a new line anywhere else, other than before the first row and it will work. The reason is because in the background Business Central assigns all lines a line number and you have reached that limit. If you keep adding new lines in the same spot you will always get that error message eventually. For example lets say you have the following two lines only:

    • Line 1 - Line No. assigned by Business Central is 10,000
    • Line 2 - Line No. assigned by Business Central is 20,000

When you insert a new line before line 1, Business Central will assign it a line number that is half of that existing line. In this case the new line number will be 5,000. If you then insert another line number before the 5,000 line, the line number will be 2,500. You can keep going like this until you get line numbers 1,250, 625, 312, 156, 78, 39, 19, 9, 4, 2, 1. At this point if you try to insert another new line you will get an error message that the line cannot be split, for the reason being that the system can't assign it a line number that's half of 1.

Hi, I've discussed this before and hope it can give you some tips.
Business Central Standard Error: The line cannot be split & There is not enough space to insert correction lines (AutoSplitKey Property)

    Thanks.

As mentioned, that is a by design feature, in order to achieve a change in the long term, you could send the feedback into the idea forum, add a new idea or vote for existing ideas. Then ask you your colleagues to raise up the votes. Microsoft has direct visibility of these ideas, and they will implement it on the basis of the highest number of votes received.

    Best Regards,
    Judy
