Import Historic Transactions (Posted) From GP2013 To BC

Hi,

Since I`m using GP2013, hence I need to do Manual Data Migration via Configuration Packages.

Say, I have Imported the Master Data- COA/Customers/ Vendors/ Items.

Now, I wanted to import Historical Transactions (past 13 years) which are all posted ones from GP to BC. Though I got the Historical Transaction tables in GP bit

I wonder which Template should I use to Import in BC, or there`s some another way out for this ?

I have the same question (0)

This type of migration isn’t well catered for unless you’re on GP 2015 and up. You would fall into the bracket of other businesses moving from a different ERP. Time and cost wise it well prove cheaper to keep a level of access to GP for a while longer.

Other methods that get suggested. Stick the data in a data warehouse and access it with a reporting tool or for documents have them stored in a file repository.

Get your BC partner to create bespoke history tables. You can then use config packages to insert the data with next to no data validation issues

Re post all of the data with journals. I’ve had a recent experience with this one and I saw it working quicker and better if one g/l journal was used just to pull over the g/l data. This meant leaving the sun ledgers alone. I’ve then seen it happen with sun ledgers and it required modifications to speed up the process. The ETL was long with configuration packages. 13 years worth would take a large number of months.

I agreed with you Josh, however the Client wants complete data on BC including History

Also, If We upgrade to Gp 2015 or later via Cloud Migration Tool then will it bring all historical Transactions (considering Db size < 80 GB ). What kind of Transactions Tool will not take in..any implementations ?

It might not hurt for you and your client to watch this video from DynamicsCon 2020 ...

You can fast forward to around 16 1/2 minutes to where he discusses how much historical data needs to be brought across

Some country dependency on the amount of years to hold data. UK it is 7 years. I would think the move to GP 2015 is worth exploring from a cost and time perspective if it means using a well tested migration pathway eventually that gives you the desired result

There are a lot of good answers here and I just wanted to add something I have done recently.  I have now used the cloud migration tool in a couple of situations.

I use it for testing if they are on a version that is above GP2015 if they want to see their data quickly in the BC environment.  I have also used it in a live environment that brought over data back to 2003, however keep in mind it is SUMMARIZED data and they do not see it like they see it in GP.  This client also was not on GP2015 so I took their database from their environment and put them on my demo server and updated it to a current version and then ran the migration tool.  You have to be careful that you haven't tried the migration tool in their environment or you will have to enable the ability to have two integration services available in Azure.  You can also just put the data into the Azure Data Lake, but they would need to set this up before migrating the data there.  The last option is using something like PopDock from eOne and not migrate the data, but just connect to it from inside of BC.  Bringing over that much data is a lot and would definitely take a lot of hours if you do it manually through configuration packages.

    Hope this helps.
