Accounting Format Sorting Option

Hi,

Does anyone know how to change the Sorting Option under Account Formats? I know that when you initially create the company, you assign it from there. However, is there any way to change this from the back end? I would like to remove the sorting option (currently the accounts are sorted by account, department, and product/project) If so, does anyone have a script? Thanks.

Best,

Ronald

    RE: Accounting Format Sorting Option

Sort Order is stored in your GP system Database (usually DYNAMICS) in the SY00302 table.  (Max Account Length and Max Segments are in the GP system Database SY003001 table.

[Would SmartList > Account Transactions work for reviewing the data?  I confirmed in GP 2018 that the Sequence Number is maintained between Document Status = Work and Document Status = Open.  I have many clients who prefer SmartList for their Edit List/Review.  Also, the window/report should be able to be modified to sort the scrolling window/body by Sequence Number.]

What if there is not a file by that name in that location?

    Hi Leslie,

That is correct. I read somewhere that we can change line sequence number in SQL and have the Journal Entries sorted by the sequence number.

Perhaps I misread this, but I was thinking that they wanted the report needed to be in the order in which they had entered the journal entry. So, they would need it sorted by the line sequence number. Is this correct?

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

    RE: Accounting Format Sorting Option

    Hi,

Thanks for all the feedback. One of my clients want to change their Journal Inquiry Reports. The issue is that GP sorts the report by account. My clients want it so that the report would be easier to read. So my theory was to undo the sorting options in the account format.

I had another post in the forums. Its related to this post. If anything, there are examples of what I'm trying to explain in the link below.

    Thanks!

    Hi again,

I also want to add that you can modify your account framework (which includes the sorting order) using the Reformatter module from Corporate Renaissance Group.

    Hi Ronald,

Are you trying to change the sort indexes, or remove them? I don't understand what you need to accomplish or what problem you are having with the existing sort indexes. Which window are you having an issue with?

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

    RE: Accounting Format Sorting Option

The sorting option checked and setup during the installation is stored in a text file resides in Microsoft Dynamics GP Folder > Data > ACCTFRAM.TXT

There are no records associated with the sorting option stored in the database. As shown below, the file stores the option and loads it during the initializing of Dynamics GP.

Although, I have never came across this issue, neither setting it up nor modifying it. What's stated is that the sorting options are not to be changed after it is set up during the installation.

    So far, hope this helps.
