Plug in for CRM 4 Opportunities Auto Numbering

I'm looking to do an auto number for every new opportunity that is opened. 

I've been told that I need a plug in as it is not possible to configure auto numbering for this entity.

Can anyone help?

    Hi Dorothy,

    Correct - you will need to code a plugin that does this.  Here's a good blog on the code needed:
