Merging 2 separate GP Instances

I need to merge 2 separate GP instances running on different SQL servers into 1 GP instance.  Has anyone ever done this as I would like some information on the complexity of the task and what would be involved.

Thanks.

What is the account framework on these two instances? If they are different then it would very difficult. Also, do you have different companies under each instance?

The account framework for each instance are the same.  There are companies setup on each of the 2 instances.

On the destination server go into GP Utilities and add each company from the source instance. Once all the databases are created you can do a forced restore on the destination server. You will need to setup up security within GP for these companies. You will also need to make sure the version of GP is the same on both instances. If you use notes you will need to run the notefix script.

Richard, have you done this successfully? I have tried and had to give up because the currency ID's did not match (they were created in different orders in each company). This meant I ended up installing 2 instances of GP with separate dynamics on one SQL, then running consolidated MR reports on them.

I would have suspected that the CMPNYID would have been the problem not multi-currency.  Does this return different values between the two instances?

    SELECT * FROM [DYNAMICS].[dbo].[MC40200]

I checked the account framework for both instances and they are actually different.  They are as follows:

    Instance A

    SY003001

    MXLACNUM MXNUMSEG DEX_ROW_ID
    40 7 1

    SY00302

    SGMTNUMB SGMTNAME SGMNTLTH USDFSGKY DEX_ROW_ID
    1 Segment1        7 0 1
    2 Segment2        7 8 2
    3 Segment3        7 0 3
    4 Segment4        7 9 4
    5 Segment5        7 10 5
    6 Segment6        7 0 6
    7 Segment7        7 0

    7

    Instance B

    SY003001

    MXLACNUM MXNUMSEG DEX_ROW_ID
    49 7 1

    SY00302

    SGMTNUMB SGMTNAME SGMNTLTH USDFSGKY DEX_ROW_ID
    1 Segment1        7 0 1
    2 Segment2        7 0 2
    3 Segment3        7 0 3
    4 Segment4        7 0 4
    5 Segment5        7 0 5
    6 Segment6        7 0 6
    7 Segment7        7 0 7

The data from instance A will be brought into instance B.  The maximum account length for  Instance A is less than B so I'm guessing that should be ok but the USDFSGKY value is different for both instances.  Is this sorting option ?

When a select is done on the MC40200 table for both instances, the CURRNIDX are the same for the functional currency for both instances but different for one of the other currencies which are used.

Because of the account string and currency differences, it sounds like this is going to be very complex. I would recommend not doing this manually. Either bring in the smaller company into the large one as new accounts and opening GL balances only, or look into a third party solution like CRG's own.

please note I have never used this particular tool, I only know it exists for this purpose.

What do you see in SY00300 in your company databases? This may be a job for bulk copy out and in. You essentially export everything out to text files and then import everything back in. You would do this into a fresh copy of GP databases. I would agree that a call to crgoup.com may be of use here. Ask them if their Reformatter program would any use here.
