Is it possible to allow users to post each others journal entries/batches but not allow them to post thier own?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Nick:

Unfortunately this functionality is not built into GP. The closest you can get is to mark the box that says 'Require Batch Approval' on the Posting Setup window (Microsoft Dynamics GP - Tools - Setup - Posting - Posting). This allows you to set up a password that must be entered before a batch could be posted. This would work if you had one person entering and one person posting, but this wouldn't work if both users needed to enter and post.

You would probably have to go down the road of a customization to get something like this to work. I don't think it would have to be a terribly difficult customization either.

    Hope this helps.

    Re: Posting permissions in GP

We ran into this issue with Lawson, as a SOX control issue.  Of course, it doesn't do this out-of-the-box either.  Our (low-tech) solution was to require the following:

    1)  Every transaction gets posted to a batch (not directly posted to the GL)

    2)  The User ID of the person who created the batch shows up on the report

    3)  A third-party (in our case, the controller) collects batch reports when they're ready to be posted, initials them, then hands them to a DIFFERENT user to post (ie different from the person who created the batch).  The controller keeps track of the batch totals of the reports she's signed, and runs a report to check the total of all batches posted in a day.

Not elegant, for sure, but the auditors loved it (go figure).  It also had the added benefit of getting the controller's eyes on the batches before they were posted; she spotted quite a few errors (and other interesting items) in this manner.
