item setup for items with multiple packages

Hi All,

is there a way to set up an item that contains out of two SKUs with the WMS?

Like for example one item that contains out of one big part in a large box and one in a smaller box.

Both boxes might be located in different locations in the WMS warehouse, but they need to have the same item number and are always to be sold together.

I think this excludes supplementary items, related items, BOMs etc. because they all require different item numbers.

Any ideas are highly appreciated.

Thanks a lot

    Hi Tilman,

That is very interesting requirement. So both SKUs are to have the same item number but represent two different objects in different boxes?

    Maybe try product variants:

    1. Item A with Configuration Big box

    2. Item A with Configuration Small box

You may then create a retail kit that will combine these two, if needed: docs.microsoft.com/.../create-retail-product-kits

    Will that work?

    Hello Tilman,

I could see a few options here depending on your detailed scenario and the business needs:

    1. Retail kits - you can create a retail kit item that consists of 1 to many components (means items). You use product kits to group and package individual products into one sellable unit/kit item - items are sold together when the kit item is rang up e.g. on the POS - you can assemble and disassemble product kits to its components if needed. You could store item 1 and item 2 in 2 different locations (with 2 different item numbers) and assemble kit with kit item number including both items at the store location.

    2. Set up product master and variants and leverage as well as repurpose a product dimension for style, size, color or configurations for your use case. If you are using POS, use now linked item functionality under Released products on the Actionpane under retail/Linked items. As soon item variant 1 is rang up on the POS also item variant 2 would be pulled in automatically into the transaction. That means, item number would be shared and item variants could be stored in 2 different location but would be sold together.

    Thank you!

    Best Wishes,

    Thanks for the answers.

The requirement is actually not that special. Just think about furniture. Here you often buy one item containing multiple packages.

I will test your solutions and check if it works for us.

But it looks more like a workaround than a solution, I wonder if Microsoft will come some day with a different approach.

    Hi Tilman,

Hopefully one of the suggestions helped with your issue.

Currently, you cannot have the same item number for two different products.

You could add this on the Ideas portal, and post a link for others to vote for this:

    Hi,

What about using the bundle functionality? Seems like your final product consists of multiple components that need to be picked together. These components in the end make the "final product". More information can be found via the following link: http://d365tour.com/en/microsoft-dynamics-d365o/trade-logistics-d365fo-en/revenue-recognition-bundle/

    Thanks,

    Hi Tilman Vo,

Are you still looking for a solution if yes then please answer the below question?

What do you want to see the packing slip and invoice? Single item or All components.

Because I am also working on a similar requirement and I found a solution that might work for you.

    Thanks

    Hi Ashutosh,

the customer will order one item and also only wants to have only one item on the invoice.

The differentiation is only for logistics internally.

Although it might happen with the picking process that both pieces may be picked not together and therefore be not shipped together. So it might be that it will be content to two different shipments / packing slips.

Finding a valid solution might be quite challenging.
