My company wants to move towards the CRM online application however they also want to migrate the PeopleSoft CRM records to it. What are the disadvantages of doing this thru CRM online? Or should i propose moving to CRM 2011 on-premise instead of online?

There are really no huge difference between CRM Online and Onpremise any more. With the latest update the only big difference is the ability to access CRM on a database level and the way you are forced to use BIDS reports on CRM online.
So your choice of CRM Online versus onPremise should come down to..
1. Licensing. Whats the best pricing for you?
2. What IT requirements does your organization have.
3. Do you want to be able to scale the performance on the server yourself.
