Available on location consumption

Hi, experts!

Could you please help me understand a situation I'm facing?

When I perform the pick and put work for an item that's part of a formula, the entire license plate is moved to the production input location.

However, I don't want the system to generate the picking list with the full estimated quantity from the production order when it is started (Flushing principle = Available on location).

I only want it to consume the quantity I have manually reserved, which is now in Picked status (I also tested with "Issue status after raw material picking" = "Reserved physical" after completing the work, and the result was the same).

  • Estimated quantity = 2500
  • Reserved quantity (manual) = 1000
  • Quantity moved to input location = 9000

Still, since the input location contains enough inventory to meet the full estimated quantity, the system creates the picking list with the full amount — even though the "Backflush must use reserved quantities" flag is enabled.

Do you know why this might be happening? Could there be any setup I'm missing? Or is this the expected system behavior?
If it is expected, is there any known workaround to prevent the full estimated quantity from being backflushed instead of just the reserved amount?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I believe the " Backflush must use reserved quantities" is overridden by the flushing principle "Available on Location". Have you considered changing flushing principle to Start or Finish?  the behavior is different I believe "available on location" looks at production input location and simply say I have enough for the whole order so take it all it regardless. Start and finish also look at production input location but have a little more respect to the actual qty needed upon releases.
