Create new Field issue

Hi:

We are trying to add a simple field to the contact form and after hitting ok, we get the box that says "Creating Field.....", but sits there and gives no sign that it is doing anything.  What can we do to understand why this isn't working or is taking so long?

    Hi Stangride,

    If it takes more than a few seconds to create a new field then you're getting an error. Since you're on CRM 2011 you may want to look at getting a newer Update Rollup to make sure you have the latest and greatest because there have been a lot of compatibility issues over the years with different versions on CRM and IE working together (here's a good write up with some details

    blogs.msdn.com/.../avoid-browser-hangs-when-using-crm-2011.aspx ) Before you upgrade your production instance of CRM to a new UR, I'd strongly recommend redeploying your CRM organization to a test environment and doing regression testing to make sure the upgrade won't break more things than it fixes.

    Is it happening for all users or only some? Have you tried it with different browsers to see if there may be a specific combination that's causing the problem?  Are you getting that same behavior creating fields only on one entity or all of them? Is it certain types of fields only or any type?

    perhaps no harm checking there is enough disk/database space on the CRM server.

    If you're on premise, are you using SQL replication at all?  SQL replication can interfere with schema changes like adding a column.

    To understand what's happening in the background (also on-premise only), enable Verbose tracing temporarily.
