Setting Inventory Site/Location as Non-Nettable

We are running GP2013. I cannot locate or learn how to configure a Location Site to be non-nettable.......where the items I place there are not included in Inventory reports and etc.

Is this possible and if so, how would I configure it?

Thank you in advance

Randy

RE: Setting Inventory Site/Location as Non-Nettable

I'm not sure I understand your question completely.  The concept of "Nettable" or "Non-Nettable" is usually limited to Planning functionality in the Manufacturing module, not the Inventory module.  Their definitions can be found in the Planning Functions Manual of Manufacturing.  After checking the manual it would appear there have been no vast changes to functionality with regard to Nettable/Non-Nettable.  The inability of GP to "Net" sites selectively has been one of our biggest challenges.  We have a customization that addresses that.  To exclude a site from MRP calculations, you need to go to Transactions >> Manufacturing >> MRP >> Exclusions and excluded the site.

If you want to somehow exclude the site from the Inventory module reporting, Leslie's solution is valid.

If this isn't the answer you were looking for, please expand on your question.

The main purpose of having a non nettable site is to have its items  "excluded"  from being available (On Hand Quantity). For instance, you cannot use these quantities neither MRP could consider them through the planning process.

Since it is not supported explicitly in Dynamics GP as Ms. Leslie mentioned, I would suggest using the "Transfer Entry - Quantity Type Option" to mange this requirement on the inventory level. The value of these items could still be separately recorded and tracked on General Ledger Level through the associated quantity types account (In use, In service, damaged ... etc)

Another option is to transfer the items in your 'non-nettable site' into a status other than 'Onhand'.  This, in effect, makes the site non-nettable as the only quantities GP sees for planning purposes is Onhand.

RE: Setting Inventory Site/Location as Non-Nettable

    Randy,

The non-nettable concept is not built-in to Dynamics GP. You could set up a site, numbered such that it is at the end (or beginning) of your location list. That way, you can exclude it from the ranges for your reports and such. As far as resource planning, you can exclude a site from that process as well. You can use the site substitution feature in GP to control the posting accounts. So long as the item has an item card, it is technically an inventory item in GP - but I think you can work around it using the previously described techniques.

I'm sure others will provide workable solutions that are better, stay tuned.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie
