Workflow: Pulling Data from Related Record

In my Invoice entity I have two specific fields, one referring to an Order (Sales Order entity) and the other referring to a Customer (Account entity).

I have created an on-demand workflow that is supposed to pull data from the corresponding Order and Customer and update the Invoice - however, it is not working at all. 

I only have two steps in my current workflow.

  1.  Update "Invoice".
    • Within this step, I am referencing fields in my Order and Customer entities that I want to bring over into my Invoice.
  2. Stop Workflow

Any suggestions on how to set up the relationships and/or the workflow so that I can do this?

    How are you pulling related entity fields?

    The related Order and Customer fields are being populated through an integration with Dynamics 365 for Financials.

    The flow is as such,

    1. Sales Order created in CRM and sent to Financials

    2. Corresponding Sales Order is created in Financials

    3. Invoice is created within Financials from the Sales Order

    4. Corresponding Invoice is created in CRM

    However, between step 1 and 4, there is some information in the original Sales Order that doesn't make it to the Invoice that was created in CRM. That is why I'm trying to create an on-demand workflow that will populate the information that didn't make it in the integration.

    You can use custom workflow Activity or Plugin for this functionality.

    I have already created a workflow and have tried running it, but to no success. There is more details on the workflow in my original post.
