Cannot Modify Windows/Forms/Reports - Modifier Grayed Out

Hi there!

We don't seem to have the ability to modify custom windows using the sa account in Dynamics GP 10.

Under Tools > Setup > System > Alternate/Modified Forms and Reports, when selecting a window to modify and going to Tools > Customize, the Modifier and Modify Current Window options are grayed out/disabled. This is the case in the window we would like to modify, as well as the main Microsoft Dynamics GP window.

We have tried running Dynamics GP as a Windows administrator. We have made sure that the Customization Site Enabler feature is registered with our license. We ensured that the sa user has the POWERUSER role. We checked the DYNAMICS.SET file, and ensured that it is pointing to the correct path for FORMS.DIC. Still, we can't open Modifier.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why this might be the case?

    Check Field Level Security.  Even though the user may be a sysadmin or Poweruser, if any Field Security IDs are assigned to the user ID, then the customization tools will be disabled.  Restart GP after removing the IDs from the user in order for the tools to become available again.

    OK.. maybe Derek Albaugh can confirm this.. but I found a very old newsgroup post that states that Modifier isn't available in Fabrikam without registration keys.. because Microsoft doesn't want people to modify Forms in GP within Fabrikam and then export them as a .package file to re-import it into a system than doesn't possibly have the Modifier licensed.. 

    At which point I can't understand why you would be able to use Report Writer, but not Modifier.. ?? doesn't make sense to me. Also, when a partner needs to perform a customization which can't be done on the client's instance (for various reasons, i.e. not accessible during business hours), it will likely do it on their own setup in Fabrikam and then export it to load it at the customer's site.. but without a registered GP instance, Modifier isn't available. Doh!!

    Richard,

    I was running into the same problem with the Fabrikam (TWO) setup.. which means there aren't any registration keys as it's identified as 'Preview Keys' in the system.. The Report Modifier is accessible, but the Form Modifier is greyed out (ALT-F10).. I wanted to check some custom forms that I had imported as a .package file, and can't open the modified form.. Alternate Security was changed to give access to the modified form, but that's all I can get.

    Customization Site Enabler is the current name for the customization tools and includes:

    Integration Manager

    eConnect

    WebServices

    DexteritySoftware Development Kit

    Customization Suite

    Forms Modifier is part of the Customization Suite.

    If you try to check Modifier does it allow you and does it stick?

    Rolling back the changes would be simple. Simply rename or delete your FORMS.DIC file and go to Tools->Setup->System->Alternate Forms and Reports and set all forms back to their Dynamics GP versions.

    So, as we stated before, the Customization Site Enabler is licensed.
    However, by going into Microsoft Dynamics GP Options from the Help menu, we discovered that the Modifier module is not registered.

    We inherited this instance of Dynamics GP, and some of the forms are modified – we are aiming to look into some of those changes and potentially revert them, if needed.

    Is it possible that whoever was managing this instance before had Modifier enabled and then disabled it? If so, can we re-enable it?

    I believe you get a 90-day license for the Customization Site License. Can you log into CustomerSource to check your license?

    In Registration, we only see Customization Site Enabler; we don't see Customization Suite. Regardless, every item in the list is marked.

    Is there somewhere else we should be looking?

    Could this perhaps be an issue with licensing? Even though we have Customization Site Enabler on our license? Does it expire?

    Everything we've tried so far suggests that this is not a user-level issue, but an application-level issue.

    In a nutshell: we've been trying to alter an already-modified form, but we are unsure of how this was initially done, as we inherited the setup.

    Open to any and all suggestions at this point. Thanks!

    How about unchecking the Customization Suite, leaving GP, coming back in and check the Customization Suite, leave GP and come back in again. If you go into CustomerSource and look at your keys you are licensed for the Customization Suite?

    We just tried creating a new POWERUSER, but they don't seem to have the ability to enter the Modifier, either.
