Master Planning - Action Messages

Hello all,

If I run master planning nightly, I usually get the same planned orders that I didn't take any action on. I understand that planning creates action messages after requirements are run, usually based on supply issues, which is what it's doing for me. This is what is happening:

  • Master planning is run and it sees 4 open sales orders and a current inventory of 0. It suggests a purchase order to cover the 4 sales orders.
  • Then, in the next step of the run, it recognizes that there is already a purchase order in process set to be received soon that will cover the sales orders
  • The planned PO has a cancel action message, as it should.

My question is though, if I run a regeneration every night, is there a way to stop getting the same planned order every day? If I cancel it, it is created again since there are still 0 in inventory and 4 open sales orders.

If I cancel and run a net change plan, will the planned PO go away?

 Thank you for your help.

I have the same question (0)

    Hello,

Probably, cancelling the planned purchase order and running a net change will not really prevent the planned purchase order to be re-created on the new regeneration run.

If indeed, you do have an upcoming purchase order expected to be received, then setting negative days to cover the period between current date and purchase order should drive the sales orders to be pegged against the purchase order.

But this would be an option only if you really want to get rid of the suggested planned purchase order.

Otherwise, the Cancel action should be a good indicator for the planner to review closely the situation before trying to firm it.

    I hope this will help.

    Best regards,

    Gabriel

    Hi

We found the below solves this problem (mostly)

    ·         Update “postponed date as requirement date” switch in Master plans – RECOMMEND: turn on

Turning on this switch stops Planned Orders from being created with subsequent Action messages to cancel the Planned Order.
