Budget Import from Excel

Hi all,

I am trying to import my budget from Excel using Budget Wizard for Excel. I am using GP 10.0 and MS Office 2007. I am getting the following message:

"The number of periods for the budget does not match the number of columns in Excel. Import will not be able to complete."

I looked up the problem in Knowledge Base and the suggestion there was to format my date columns to text. I did this, I have the correct number of columns and still no go. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Lynn

Lynn, what I've done in the past to avoid these types of errors is to export the budget template from GP and then use that template to import the budget.  Do not change the format of the template at all.  Just copy and paste the data from your Excel file into the GP budget template and import it.

    Hope this helps,

I will susgest you export the budget from the sample company, which will show the format. You erase the content of the Sample company and fill that with you figures which you can then load to your newly created company

Try changing the date fields you have at the top to text format and retype the column headers.

When I export a previous budget to excel and replace the data, the formatting of "Jan-09", "Feb-09", etc is set to a date format. GP does not recognize this and I need to type in "(apostrophe)Jan-09".

    Lynn,

You also need to have the top of the budget file set exactly as the export sets it, including blank extra rows and headings.

The suggest to do an export, check the format, and set your file the same prior to import is a good one.

We just upgraded from GP2010 to GP2013R2. The budget wizard was working fine until now. We have tried all of the suggestions we can find and nothing is working. After exporting the budget out of GP and copying the data over, we were able to get the import to run but the results were totally inaccurate. Does it matter if there are numerous calculations in the worksheet?

Hi Kelly, I have seen where leaving the calculations does cause issues - so I am always making that last copy and paste without calculations.  Also be sure that you don't change the heading at the top of the report or remove any columns from the export.  I know that I had number of errors related to changes like that.

If this helps give me a mark for an answer thanks.
