Field Mapping and Workflows

I've always built workflows to perform the field mapping manually whenever I have to copy the data from one object to a new one in a different entity.

So I've been thinking about how much easier it would have been if I could use field mapping in relationships, but as far as I'm aware this is only possible when creating the new record in the create form. Before I dig myself into a hole, I wanted to ask the question: can I leverage relationship field mapping when creating new records in a workflow.

Thanks!

    Hi Ryan,

I don't think so you can leverage relational mapping when creating record from workflow.

but in workflow you can manually map those field for new record.

I mean suppose you have contact and some another entity say Friend, and when you creating Friend from contact you want to populate, name, address, phone etc from contact to Friend.. in this case.. when you create workflow on Contact to create friend, at that time you can map those fields from contact entity into Friend entity.

Here is more on relationship mapping

    Hope this will help..

AFAIK there is no way to do this without writing a custom workflow activity.

    Hi Ryan,

You can do this by creating a Custom Workflow Activity.

This workflow activity will query your database and bring in the values you need.

    Thanks

    Ryan,

No, if you use OOB Workflow, the only way, you copy manually all the fields in the Create record action in the workflow.

Because Relationship mapping only works if you create the child records from parent context, through subgrid, or associated view or through custom ribbon that can copy from parent to child.

You can use custom workflow activity or put a plugin code in your first entity object on create.

    Hope this helps.

    Thank you.
