Best way permissions to not show balances

I want to be able to select and use GL accounts and bank accounts in journals, and documents to post. But I don't want to be able to see the balance for the GL Accounts on the table or the bank account balances. What is the best way to do this via the permissions?
I have the same question (0)

This can be done, but it's meticulous and laborious -- identifying the exact fields, hiding the fields, and (often overlooked) testing to see if it works and if it doesn't impact any processes or related tables.

Such a higher level of detail isn't encouraged as will take a lot of effort to maintain over time. So unless there's a strong reason for this specific change, it might be better to leave the balances "exposed" as they are and assign a trustworthy person to perform the transactions.

Yep — you can do this cleanly with AL by:
    1. adding a Show Balances toggle on User Setup, and
    2. hiding Balance / Net Change fields + balance FactBoxes on the relevant pages based on that toggle.
Below is a working pattern you can drop into your extension (adjust control names if your page has slightly different ones).

If you found this helpfull please mark it as verified.

Fairly simple actually.  Give them the permissions you want them to have, then add an Exclude for the G/L Entries.  Now they can select G/L Accounts on lines, but they won't be able to open the G/L Entries that make up the balance of that account.

The fields you mentioned are all Flowfields. Hopefully, the following information can give you some hints.
Dynamics 365 Business Central: What happens if users don’t have permission to read the table set in a FlowField?

    Thanks.

    Hello ,

You can’t fully do this with permissions alone.

What you can do (best practice):

Give users posting rights (journals, G/L Entry, Bank Ledger Entry)

Give Read access to G/L Account / Bank Account (needed to select accounts)

Remove access to Chart of Accounts and Bank Account pages

Enable UI Elements Removal = LicenseFileAndUserPermissions

    Result:
    Can post
    Can select accounts
Cannot see balances in the UI

Limitation (important): If users have read access to ledger entries, they can technically derive balances. BC doesn’t support “post but completely blind to balances” at data level.

    Bottom line:
Balances can be hidden in the UI, not fully blocked at data level.

    Regards,
