Wondering how I can create a report that will be grouped by the Parent Account and then by the Account. I have tried doing this, but it isn't working. I have the Primary record type as Accounts, and the Related record type as Accounts (Parent Account). I have the filtering as Status = Active
When I try to run the report I get "Reporting Error - The report cannot be displayed because an internal error has occurred. The report query contains invalid FetchXML."

I created a report based on Account entity with your conditions.
And it worked well.
And if you are using fetch xml to build the report, please share your complete fetch xml here for more details.
If not, please copy the condition to Advanced Find to check if the filter condition works.
