We currently have our OSP setup as machines. Boms point to the specific OSP proccess as a machine, then this flows through to the workorder so on an so forth. The problem is we are going to actually setup machines in the machines category. Some of our new proccesses are requiring multiple OSP steps before they reach inventory/ assembly. Currently we have no OSP or what stage in WIP the work order is in. We are going to be setting up Project accounting soon so this information is improtant to know going forward.
Are there alternates to setting up OSP? Is there a third party software to do this? We would also need to track cost and WIP ( where is this part is it at Machine stage internal? OSP 1, OSP 2, etc, etc)
This would be of great help to obtain this information/ direction.
Thank you all
Mark

What I have encountered in this scenario is we (client and myself) have always created it as a subassembly and a separate work order. Tracking is easier, costs roll up, so it is usually a win-win. They would have 5-6 steps an item would go for each step. It does create more BOM's, but the return on tracebility outweighs the extra item numbers and BOM's. It is an alternative.
As far as WIP, you could consider the WIP account for the subassembly inventory and run a stock status for the value.
