Best Practice: Store Documents

(0) ShareShare

Hallo there,

we are working with a lot of files, between a size of 1MB to 200MB, currently stored on a local server. This documents have to be in Dynamics 365, related to the Opportunities. I'm not sure, what the best way would be to meet this requirement. I'm in the opinion, that there are the following ways doing that:

1) Store directly in CRM Database

2) Store in Sharepoint

3) Store in OneDrive

How much storage capacity do this solutions offer? And how much is the cost for an additional GB?

Are they all 'read-to-use' in Dynamics or do I have to set up an integration?

Is there also an option to use Nextcloud?

Thanks a lot, I really need some help here.

Best Regards,

Jay

We are currently having the same problem. We have over 20GB of image attachments on our CRM Server.

We are going to be using a SSIS Package using  KingswaySoft adapter which will:

    - Create SharePoint Folders

    - Create SharePoint link from CRM record to that Folder

    - Add Attachments to those folders

    - Create a HTML link to replace the original attachment (this will link to SharePoint)

    - Delete original attachment

This will be a ongoing process so that users can carry on attaching notes as usual. From what if seen SharePoint is cheaper in terms of storage.

    Hallo Thomas,

thanks for this posting. I prefer the SharePoint Solution too. But my understanding is, that there's a out-of-the-box integration between Dynamics and SharePoint? Is that right? Or do I need a solution similar to KingswaySoft adapter?

Yes there is an out of the box solution but i'm not too familiar with the process of bulk moving of records using that method.

You check out these links if they help:

As for using the KinswaySoft adapter. www.kingswaysoft.com/.../download

Its free to use only if you use it within Visual Studio. If you want to run it automatically out side of Visual Studio then you will have to pay for a license.  Its pretty simple to use.
