Automatic Reservations

Hello,

Can someone share a link to any good resource on how Automatic reservations work in D365FO please?

Below is what I am trying to find out

1. Is automatic reservation done based on FIFO regardless of the item costing method?

2. Is there a way to setup automatic reservation based on priority customers/ priority orders?

Thanks!

    Hello Indiguna,

Point1 : No, Inventory reservation is primarily meant to block available inventory or expected inbound order. Irrespective of Costing Method, while inventory reservation system would consider running weighted avg. cost, while the inventory recalculation / closing is done system will adjust the valuations based on Item Model Group setup.

Point2 : I think Marking is answer to your query, but that is Order to Order, however, the cost handling differs in this case. The reservation cost would be at actual PO value against which the SO has been marked.

    Regards,

    Ashish

Ashish, thanks for your reply. Answer to Point 1 is clear.

Point 2 - If we disregard the cost handling, did you mean reservation for any priority orders can be done only manually and there is no way in D365FO to set this up based on Customer priority automatically?

I wonder how this field on customer card below works? Any idea?

Also, I am still looking for a good video/ blog post that would explain this reservation with examples if you can refer me to one please.

    Hi Ashish,

Maybe the following post helps you docs.microsoft.com/.../reserve-inventory-quantities.

Something to keep in mind in case you are using advanced warehousing is that the FIFO-date controlled logic does not work in conjunction with the advanced warehouse enabled process. In case you still would like to allocate your inventory based on the FIFO methodology in this case you might want to have a look at the new FIFO location directive strategy [https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365-release-plan/2019wave2/dynamics365-supply-chain-management/location-directive-inventory-picking-aging].

Regarding your second point I know this can be achieved by means of the order/GOP module of BHS; however, I'm not aware of a way how to achieve this in standard.

Is there any other screen I can use to check available quantity and  Manually reserve stock and release it to the warehouse?
