Hi All,

Is it possible me to create a alternate key by combination of First Name and the Last Name in contact entity. I want to stop user creating duplicate records with same first and Last Name. Or are there any other good way of doing this.

Thanks.

    Hi,

this is what i can think of.

First, ,Please do not to use the first name and last name . As far as i know, the name can be the same especially comes to Chinese.

Secondly, i would recommend you to use email ( required some extra work) or Personal identity number as an alternate key.

you can refer to this blog for more information regarding alternate key.

    Thanks

Yes my preference is to not to use First Name And Last name for a key, I thought about the email, but some records doesn't have an email.

So I have created a integer field  called Member ID and assigned values when I m migrating data from other data base.

But the issue is organisation doesn't use Member ID to identified members, they are using only the First name and Last Name.

So end user can create a duplicate name with different Member ID.  Any idea please?

    Thanks.

    Hi,

Would be a great start for you to recommend them to implement such Contact ID to differentiate the contacts or implement some rule on it (email address must be provided before they can create the contact) . Try your best to convince them by showing the poc and explain the reason behind it.
