How do I perform a bulk update of records based on a record selection and some specified input parameters?

We have a custom telephone lines entity which we use to track start and end dates of a contract of the line itself.   When we want to perform a contract renewal on a number of selected line records.  We want to be able to select a new salesorder related to the account, input a start date of the renewal and the length of the renewal contract in months in a dialog style entry.  I then want to calculate the end date and update all the selected records with the new start and end dates (as specified and calculated) and updated order.   I fairly sure this will have to be a custom plugin to do the data entry as a dialog cant run on multiple records?

Can anyone confirm if this is possible to do and if so provide some guidance how to do it?

Sample code would be useful place to start.

I've never developed a custom plugin before, however I have (with assistance here) developed a custom workflow with some starter code.

    Hi John,

Nice to hear you have already developed custom workflow, but as here you want to get input from users and want to do calculation based on the input, you need to develop a html control, something like this: butenko.pro/.../dynamics-crm-2013-step-by-step-creating-dialog-windows

Sorry I don't have any link to provide you more step by step process, but you can reuse lot's of sample code from SDK to update.

    Thanks

I meant to say I've already done some custom workflow activity on Lines on some other posts here.  I have the SDK downloaded already.

    Hi,

One option is to use a custom HTML dialog where you can have required field and do calculation using scripting and finally update all the selected records based on result.

You can download CRM SDK if you have not done so far, you will get sample code for html webresource in that.

    Thanks
