Are we going to have this feature in CRM 2013, as in the auto-numbering feature for accounts or not?

Out of the box there is't an auto number available for Account records like you see with Cases or Quotes - you'll have to look for a third party solution.
This is a bit of a frustration for most CRM developers I would think.
Shame they haven't implemented it for all core entities.
I strongly believe that when you provide a product feature, you should also provide the option for the user to turn it on/off (just like auto-save).
An Account Number can mean differently in different businesses...for example, in a bank, an account number could be a customer number, generated from one of their external systems - you may want to show it as Read-Only in CRM. This is quite different to the other auto numberings provided in CRM (e.g Case, Quote, Invoice, Order, Campaign etc). Even if Microsoft had provided you an option to generate an Account number automatically, there are more changes that you might need it in a different format.
I have used the below solution from codeplex for autonumbering. This has worked well so far - tried using it on CRM Online 2013 and it works fine!

Would you have any screenshots, step-by-step guides for setting this up in CRM 2013. The installation has worked without errors. The difficulty I'm finding is the navigation to the correct screens for setup, as the guide is screenshots of the 2011 version.

Just navigate to Settings, and You will find Counters at the Extensions group
With real-time workflow it is now possible to configure auto-numbering without importing any custom made solution:
