    Hi Tin,

A territory represents a sales region. The site entity represents a location or branch office where an organization does business. Whereas Business unit is used more for data security between the businesses.

So in your situation, you may still need to add your accuisition as a territory or as an office if you have a salee/ service module.

But if you do not want to restrict the data between your users from your company and your accuisition then you don't need business unit. But you you need to secure data then you need to create separate business unit and add all the users under that business unit and also update the security role permissions accordingly.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Tin,

All the entities Account, contact, opportunity, order etc has the owner field. (which tells us who is the owner of that record),  If you specify the territory for all your users, you could simple report on that i.e. all account where owners are from "XXX" Territory.

This is assuming you don't need any data security. However, you could still think about Business Unit (instead of territory/ site) as that way you will have an option to enable security if required.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks, your explanation is too clear appreciate.

So, as I have understand :

Territory and Site - only for report

BU - we can use for reporting and provide security to users level

Custom field - we can add a token option set to segregate records

above are the options we can use to merge a new business into a same organisation.

Could you give me why i have go for territory , why not for site?

    Hi Tin,

Site is mainly used in customer service module whereas territory is mainly used in sales and has some oob implementation like charts, fields, reports etc

I don't thin both are meant to be used for reporting purpose but can be used. Territory is already linked with accounts which are linked with opportunities whereas site is linked to service scheduling functionality.

So to answer your question there is no obvious choice between 2 for reporting, however if your crm implementation is sales the territory would be preferred.

I think as you are just looking for reporting purpose, business unit would be best as then you don't need to do any additonal customization/ configuration. All users must already have business unit and you just need to report based on the business unit.

    Hope this helps.

Then what will be the main difference if i will go with Site and territory ?

I am not looking only for reporting i want to merge new business(UK region) into existing (US region) one. And, trying to find out a best way to merge into it.

Have a look at this thread:

    community.dynamics.com/.../177268

I'd say territories are a bit confusing and do not provide a lot of value. BU-s should be just fine - if you don't need BU-level data security, you can always give everyone access to all the data in your organizaiton (but, if you find out you need security, you will have to have BU-s)
