CRM SDK Template 2015 update nuget packages to 2016 issue.

I have a "UII WPF Hosted Control" project created with the Dynamics CRM 2015 SDK Template for Visual Studio.

After updating Dynamics CRM SDK Nuget Packages to 2016 the WPF designer cannot preview the control. It reports an exception of type FileNotFound for the assembly 'Microsoft.Uii.Common.TypeProvider, Version=3.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35'.

The solution builds with no Error or Warning. The assembly in question exists in the USD 2.0 Desktop client so the Hosted Control actually works on production.

Also tried with a clean project from the Template. The same issue occurs.

I'm using VS 2013.

Appreciated the time,

gcast

The link that you sent was to the USD Client not the SDK. I think you meant this:

What a mess guys. The SDK 2016 Template*1 for Visual Studio references 2015 packages but that's another bug. Our problem is with updating the template (2015 or 2016 template) to use 2016 packages.

So the problem remains. We need to compile against the new 2016 DLL's so when we update the nuget packages the problem occurs.

The problem we describe seems to be caused by an Assembly (we bet new to the CRM SDK 2016) that is not included in any of the 2016 nuget packages.

The missing assembly raises linkage issues at runtime. The easiest way to reproduce this problem is to open the WPF designer for the Hosted Control. It will try to instantiate the control and fail.

Option 1: the CRM SDK team forgot to add the new assembly to one of the 2016 nuget packages.

Option 2: there is a new 2016 nuget package that includes the missing assembly. If so kindly tells us what is. We can't find it.

    To reproduce:

    - Install CRM SDK 2015 Template for Visual Studio.

    OR

    - Install CRM SDK 2016 Template for Visual Studio.

     - Create a new "UII WPF Hosted Control" project

    - Open nuget package manager

    - Update the two 2015 CRM SDK packages to the lasted version (2016 - 8.0.2)

    - Open the Hosted Control in the WPF Designer.

I was having the same problem.  It's not really a fix, but you can work around it as follows:

    1. Take a copy of the Microsoft.Uii.Common.TypeProvider.dll
    2. Put it in the directory of your Visual Studio project.
    3. Add a reference to the dll to your Visual Studio project.

After I did this, the WPF Designer started working again.
