Unable to successfully create OLE links...

I migrated from Microsoft Dynamis SL 6.5 SP1 to Microsoft Dynamics SL 6.5 SP3 and the message  "Unable to succesfully create OLE links between appliction and parent programs occurs at signon" appears sometimes with some users. My server is a 32 bits server and my clients are 64 bits machines and they are Terminal Servers. With Microsoft Dynamis SL 6.5 SP1 I had the same configuration and was working correctly. Would this be the problem? or could be another thing?  The server and the client use Windows Server 2003 as operating system.

Thanks

RE: Unable to successfully create OLE links...

I Tried your solution .. What i did is i have Dynamics SL on Terminal Server being accessed and all the users accessing remotely  were having the same error OLE Issue.

I logged on the Server and clicked "Run as Administrator". It Got Opened.

The Next time i click normally without running as administrator and it got fixed and issue got resolved for all the users accessing remotely.

    I Thank you :)

RE: Unable to successfully create OLE links...

I know it's too late, but if someone finds it and it helps, it will be great.

We have SL 2011 or Terminal Services. One day SOME users reported OLE issue. To resolve I did two things and unfortunately almost at the same time, so not sure what helped exactly. One, SL Database Maintenance, Synchronize All Ownership & Security. I think that one did it.

Two, remove affected user from all security groups and save, then add and save.

    Enjoy!

you may try turn off UAC . if you are using windows 7 or above.

    or try run as administrator

and give SL folder full rights

RE: Unable to successfully create OLE links...

I'm having the same issue in SL 2011 on only one workstation. No Citrix is involved.

Unfortunately, the two links to the KB Article that were listed here are no longer working and when I search in CustomerSource under ALL or Knowledgebase, nothing returns. Does anyone happen to have the steps from KB 873535?

    Thanks!

Re: Unable to successfully create OLE links...

    • There is a KB article that may be of some assistance.

KB article 873535 - Sys Msg 20004 "Unable to Successfully Create OLE Links" in Solomon

    mbs.microsoft.com/.../KBDisplay.aspx

Also, when this user logs into the terminal server, make sure that they have TCP/IP and Name Pipes enabled. This can be done through:

    1. Click Start/Run.

    2. Type Cliconfg.

    3. Make sure TCP/IP and Named Pipes are enabled.

I found also some comments on that it sounds like a security (permissions) issue and I don´t remember if that resolved my problem. This is what I found:

"I changed our users from local admin to power users. So far it is working. We have a limited group of SL users via Terminal Services so I think I'll stay with this fix instead of changing the settings for all TS users with compatws.inf - that's assuming my fix continues to work"
