Smart Matching from Subject Lines

A lot of emails sent to our organization have Opportunity names as the subject line. We already have smart matching to associate emails with the contacts that sent or received them; is there a way to associate emails with the Opportunity that is mentioned in the subject line too? Thanks for any help!

From what I've seen in the past and my understanding is that when your receiving responses from emails sent from CRM, smart matching will work for Opportunities and automatically set the regarding field.  However, it's all dependent on the subject text and the recipients.  The subject must match besides the "RE:" or "FWD:" and must have a minimum number of senders or recipients of the original email.  If it's an outgoing email a user should set the regarding field on the email to the opportunity.

Also consider using tracking tokens if you don't mind the extra information on the subject.

Configuration for smart matching is in Administration->System Settings->Email(tab).  You can change the differences in subject keywords or minimum number of recipients or even the regex that you want to strip out of the subject matching.

If you opportunity names are unique and your looking to get automatic matching to new emails coming into the system a plugin could be used to do some email parsing.  You could attach to the create event of the email and lookup the opportunities to set the desired regarding field.  This is a higher level of customization, but if the above is not working a custom approach for this could work.
